For any clients who pay out of pocket, we can provide the necessary paperwork for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement. In these cases, it is the clients' responsibility to determine whether or not your insurance company will accept forms for reimbursement. You can simply call the benefits number on the back of your insurance card and ask if they will "reimburse for out of network therapy." If they will, it is typically as simple as submitting a form that we provide showing how much you have paid in order to be reimbursed.
Payment is due at the time of session unless prior arrangements have been made.
While we do accept insurance, we are often asked why so many people choose not to use insurance when seeking therapy. Many people choose to pay out of pocket because when filing insurance, your insurance company will require that we provide a diagnosis that becomes a permanent part of your medical record. There is no shame in this, most people will struggle with a diagnosable mental illness in their lifetime, but for various reasons some people may not want that shared. Many people want to maintain confidentiality with their therapist, and for this reason choose to pay out of pocket for treatment so that everything we do in the therapy room truly stays in the therapy room. When we file insurance, your insurance company is given a diagnosis code, and has the right to request your records at any time - the same way they can with any other medical provider who is rendering a service.
We want to remove stigma around mental illness, and we want to make getting help as easy and affordable as possible by working to get in network with as many insurance companies as possible. There is no shame in using your insurance, most of our clients do! However, we do also want you to be informed. If you are in need of support, but do not want to use your insurance, we offer private pay rates which we strive to keep affordable (rates vary by therapist based on experience level).
